Drunk man threatened to headbutt emergency staff in Hereford

A DRUNK men threatened to headbutt emergency workers who were trying to get him hospital treatment, a court has heard.

Leon Anthony Preece admitted being drunk and disorderly when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

Police had been called by paramedics who were treating Preece and needed an officer to accompany him to hospital on March 9, prosecutor Mark Hambling said.

But Preece became aggressive after being handcuffed to prevent him from undoing his seatbelt in the ambulance, verbally abusing and threatening to headbutt police and paramedics.

Preece was arrested for his behaviour after being seen by doctors at Hereford County Hospital.

Speaking on his own behalf, 36-year-old scaffolder Preece said he wanted to say sorry for his behaviour.

“I would never normally behave like that and I am truly sorry,” he said.

Preece, of Toll Gate Road, Ludlow, was fined £50. He must also pay costs of £60 and a £34 victim surcharge.
