Following the huge success of last year’s event, which welcomed over 1500 visitors, CMYK Festival of Print and Illustration is back for 2025 and bigger than ever.
Taking place on Saturday 17 May, this vibrant one-day festival features a rich programme of free workshops, artist talks, exhibitions, and a bustling art market hosting over 100 illustrators. Whether you’re a creative professional, a budding illustrator, or simply looking for a family day out, CMYK has something for everyone.
Headline speakers:
Clive Hicks-Jenkins
Welsh artist and illustrator Clive Hicks-Jenkins will be joining us for his talk ‘Heroes and Horrors: Illustrating Beowulf, The Iliad and The Odyssey for The Folio Society’. Known for his richly narrative work, Clive has transitioned from a successful early career in theatre to being recognised as “one of the most individual and complete artists of our time” (Simon Callow). His talk will explore the power of classical storytelling through contemporary illustration.
Louise Lockhart – The Printed Peanut
Illustrator and designer Louise Lockhart creates bright, joyful artwork from her studio in Abergavenny. Inspired by vintage packaging, textiles, and everyday life, her work blends techniques like risograph and screen printing. Her playful designs have become beloved worldwide through her brand, The Printed Peanut.
Event highlights:
Drop-in Workshops
From Risograph Riot to Folk Felt, Funny Faces to Party Animals, there’s a workshop for every age and skill level. These hands-on sessions are perfect for families, aspiring artists, and anyone who loves to experiment with print and illustration.
Interactive Colour Quiz with Jonny Hannah
Join Darktown resident Jonny Hannah for an interactive quiz that challenges your understanding of colour. Jonny’s work is inspired by folklore, 19th century typeface, and the written word in general. But, in equal measure, he also draws influence from ‘urban folk’ and the beauty of modern life. You’ll leave both entertained and inspired.
Exhibitions:
Explore the works of the late Robin Chevalier, student-led HCA Collections, and Ed Catley.
The CMYK Marketplace:
With over 100 artists and makers showcasing and selling their work, the market is the heart of the festival. Browse and buy from illustrators including Molly Fairhurst, Russell Taysom, and Jonny Hannah.
