Hay-on-Wye, Wales – December 2- December 7, 2025 – We are proud to announce our latest exhibition at The Chair, Withnail & Others, a captivating collection of works by internationally renowned photographer Murray Close, opening on December 2 in the heart of Hay-on-Wye.

Best known for his behind-the-scenes stills and portraits from some of the most iconic films of the last four decades—including Jurassic ParkThe ShiningHarry Potter, and The Hunger Games—Close’s photographs offer rare, intimate glimpses into the worlds of cinema’s greatest stories.

This exhibition presents a curated selection of Close’s most celebrated work from Withnail & I as well as lesser-seen images, showcasing his unparalleled ability to distill entire narratives into a single frame. With access to legendary directors such as Stanley Kubrick and Steven Spielberg, and stars like Jack Nicholson, Jennifer Lawrence, and Harrison Ford Close’s images are as much a part of film history as the films themselves.

Murray Close served as the photographer on Withnail & I, a film that blends bleak comedy with existential despair, set in late-1960s England. Close’s photographs have since become iconic, helping to solidify the film’s visual legacy and cult status.

The photographs taken by Murray Close for Withnail & I have been used extensively in promotional materials, retrospectives, and anniversary editions of the film. His images helped to define how audiences visualized the story beyond the screen, contributing to the film’s enduring popularity.
