Hereford’s car parks rated: where should I park if houses are built on Merton Meadow?

HEREFORD could be set to lose an awful lot of parking spaces if plans to build 210 homes on the busy Merton Meadow car park go ahead.

The council-owned car park, next to Hereford FC’s Edgar Street ground, was among several city-centre sites which the council began considering for affordable housing last December.

An earlier planning application to develop the site, partly for affordable housing, was made in 2013.

Now, the Merton Meadow development is a step closer, as it is set to receive a £2 million grant from the Brownfield Land Release Fund.

So where else can you park in Hereford – and what do others have to say about the city’s other car parks?

Here’s how they are rated on Google Reviews:

Garrick Multi Storey Car Park

Location: Widemarsh St

Rating: 3.2 out of five

What you said: “Twice used this carpark. Spaces very tight even for our Ibiza. In our Peugeot estate, doors were both dented on return as a result of those parked either side – no notes left to offer payment for damage. Struggled to get out of space and turn onto exit ramp. Had to reverse back along to get an angle that didn’t bump the walls. Fairly expensive and unclear as to closing time. Very convenient for town centre shops.”

NCP Car Park Hereford Berrington St

Location: Berrington St

Rating: 2.6 out of five

What you said: “9 of us trying to work out how machine worked. Took me 15 mins to pay, waiting to check my bank to see whether I’ve been charged twice

Will not park here again, if I decide to visit Hereford again.

City council, do something about this please”

Gaol Street Car Park

Location: Gaol St

St Martins Car Park

Location: St Martin’s Avenue

Rating: 3.9 out of five

What you said: “Great park, and you can walk into Hereford via the cathedral. If you pay by phone not card as it wasn’t working and we didn’t have any cash, you pay 20% more which I don’t think is fair.”
