Six years on: the Hereford factory worker that won £71 million

Ade Goodchild, who had worked at Special Metals Wiggin for 24 years, went public with his win in March 2019, with plans to travel and buy a new home in Britain, and in the Algarve.

The former Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoats School pupil was thrown into the limelight at a press conference in Malvern, where he revealed how he planned to spend his new fortune.

“The main thing I want to do with my win is to help my family,” he said.

“The first thing I’m going to do is to take my parents property shopping. They can spend my inheritance now!”

Speaking to The Sun in October 2019, he said he bought six Euromillions tickets a week at the same Co-op store in Hereford where he bought his winning ticket.

When asked by the paper if he had any regrets about revealing his identity, he said: “I am a melter by nature, particularly when it comes to money. I like to melt into the background and live my life privately.

“But as soon as I won, I knew there was no way I would be able to keep it secret. I’d have been outed as a lottery winner in no time so I thought it was best to identify myself from the outset.

“Either way, I knew I was going to be happy with my life.”

He also revealed that he had since purchased a home, along with a silver Range Rover.

Since 2019, he appears to have shied away from publicity. However, fake accounts have popped up in his name on social media.

One tweet, purporting to be from the lottery winner, was shared some 45,000 times, and read: “I never ever thought I would have this kind of money in my life, but God works in mysterious ways. But who’s to say other people can’t share my blessings.

“Therefore I am running a giveaway. I will choose 10 people to give £1million to. Simply retweet and follow to enter. GL!”
